First Look: SIG P211 Full & Carry

SIG Sauer has just launched two lightened versions of its 2011-style pistol, the P211-Full and the P211-Carry.

2011-style pistols are incredibly popular right now, but most are absolute bricks and not well suited for everyday carry. Realizing that, SIG Sauer took its GT4 and GT5 pistols and figured out how to make them significantly lighter without sacrificing performance. Result? The P211-Full and the P211-Carry.

How’d they do it? Simple. SIG replaced the steel frames of the GT4 and GT5 with aluminum frames and polymer grips. With that change, the P211-Full weighs almost 11 ounces less than the P211-GT5 and the P211-Carry weighs 8.5 ounces less than the P211-GT4.

I got to handle and shoot both models at SIG NEXT, and I can say they definitely live up to the claim of not sacrificing performance. Both variants were extremely flat-shooting despite weighing noticeably less than their steel-framed counterparts. That said, they’re still 2011s at the end of the day, and that means they’re pretty bulky by nature. A bit too bulky for me to want to carry one myself, but for 2011 aficionados looking for a carry option that’s easier on the belt, the P211-Carry and P211-Full are definitely worth checking out.

As for their other features, both new P211 models have skeletonized flat blade triggers, removable low-profile magwells, fully ambidextrous controls, and optics-ready slides via the SIG-LOC PRO system. They also both still use P320-pattern magazines, and each pistol ships with one 17-round and one 21-round mag. The only real difference between the variants is that the Carry has a 4.2-inch bull barrel and the Full has a 5-inch bull barrel. They’re also available with lower-capacity magazines for ban states, and both models are offered with either a black or Coyote Cerakote finish.
