The fiercest gun-control advocate in Congress released the text of a bill she plans to introduce next week that would outlaw high-capacity magazines like the one a gunman used to shoot 20 people in a matter of seconds in Arizona this weekend.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s (D-N.Y.) bill also goes further than than the assault weapon ban that expired in 2004, outlawing the sale or transfer of clips that hold more than ten rounds, even those obtained before the law takes effect, according to a copy of the bill obtained by POLITICO.
The bill closes a loophole in the expired assault weapon ban that let gun owners buy high-capacity magazines made before the ban took effect in 1994.
The bill carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
“The only purpose for the existence of these devices is to be able to shoot as many people as possible as quickly as possible,” McCarthy wrote in a letter to her colleagues that accompanied the bill. “There is no reason that these devices should be available to the general public.”

It takes seconds to drop an empty magazine and reload another full one. Restricting magazines to a certain capacity could simply lead a aggressor to carry extra low-capacity magazines, or multiple firearms. Perverting the second amendment by restricting rights will only lead criminals to break the law, while infringing upon the rights of law-abiding citizens. How safe was anyone other than police and criminals during the Chicago firearm ban? I guess I’m preaching to the choir here…

McCarthy, though well meaning, or at least I assume so, is like the typical Democrat in blaming an inanimate object, rather than the person responsible! Unfortunately, it appears that this shooter slipped through the cracks. For what it is worth, this tragedy probably would not have been prevented even if large capacity magazines were not available.
However, with that said, we could go one level farther, layiing the blame at the feet of the bureaucracy of DEMOCRAT SHERIFF DUPNIK’s Department, and other social agencies involved who plainly dropped the ball! If previous threats had been investigated, it is quite possibly that this incident wouldn’t have taken place. One other factor, it has been aired that the shooter’s mother had been involved in social work. Could the investigation of previous threats been a coverup? I’ll leave the answer to that to you the reader!
As this story further unfolds, details show that this could have been prevented if all the laws and measures already in place had been followed. While hindsight is always twenty-twenty, we can all learn a lesson from this incident.
This does not call for the banning of large capacity magaszines, which their use of, may one day come into play in applying the Second Amendment to its original intent. In this upside-down world that we are living in, the common “LAW ABIDING” citizen may play a vital role in protecting the homeland in the near future.
It has already been prooven that wherever and whatever government touches, it tends to foul it up. Hypothetically, if the libs and Democrats had there way and were able to repeal the Second Amendment, remove all guns and related accessories (high capacity magazines) from private ownership, this would not stop a mentally deranged individual, or individuals from committing mayhem!
Perhaps the Dems and leftwing of that party would prefer that those mentally deranged individuals would apply the examples of terrorists in foreign lands, by strapping explosives to themselves to carry out their evil deeds.
In the Tucson incident, the shooter, by all indications, did not expect to survive the incident (a form of suicide), so if guns were not available and by using the aforementioned example, he could have killed dozens while wounding many times that number. Is this what McCarthy and the left would like to see happen?
Lets all work towards seeing that the laws and restrictions that are already in place, be applied instead of applying more bureaucracy and red tape to an already complicated situation.
In my opinion, as a former law enforcement officer, a good place to start would be by recalling Sheriff Dupnik in a special election for dereliction of duty, by politisizing the incident, instead of living up to his oath of office by doing his job in investigating the incident!

Where is the clamor and outrage about abortion now that the Dr in Philadelphia has been exposed for multiple murders of both babies and women in his clinic? I haven’t heard a word about “Abortion Reform”. That man killed at will from 1993 to the present. Way more heinous than the Tulsa shooter. (Don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with the Tulsa shooter either.) When will they get it through their heads that gun control is “legal citizen control”. THAT is what they REALLY want.
