12/27/09 Gun Rights: Arms-control bureaucrats at the United Nations and dozens of allied NGOs have been busy for two decades talking and negotiating among themselves to produce an international treaty regulating the sale of small arms. A U.N. resolution adopted in October calls upon member nations to negotiate the matter and finish writing a treaty by 2012. The United States voted for the resolution, which was adopted almost unanimously.

12/26/09 Gun Rights: Alaska State Rep. Kelly says federal rules should only apply to firearms sold across state borders.

12/28/09 Gun Rights: Introduced by Rep. Bobby Franklin (R-43, Marietta), HB 873 would have the effect of repealing Article 4, relating to dangerous instrumentalities and practices, in its entirety. This would mean that there would no longer be Georgia laws against carrying a pistol without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a deadly weapon to a public gathering.

12/23/09 Gun Rights: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his personal anti-gun crusade have cost his constituents some big money.

Gun rights groups are divided in Iowa on proposals to lift restrictions on concealed carry. Iowa Gun Owners is pushing for Vermont-style legislation, in which no permit would be required to carry.

12/18/09 Gun Rights: Gun prohibitionists are using the murder of a Seattle police officer, and a couple of other slayings, to launch a new effort to ban the sale of semiautomatic firearms in Washington State, and require current owners to register their firearms.
