First Look: CZ DUTY Pistol Series

CZ has just launched its new DUTY series of 9mm striker-fired pistols with serialized modular chassis.

Polymer-framed, striker-fired 9mm pistols are nothing new, but the trend of designing them around a serialized chassis or fire control unit is a relatively recent trend. A trend that CZ had not capitalized on until now with its new DUTY series. Initially launching with four models available, CZ DUTY pistols are modular, tough as nails, and loaded with all the features you’d expect in a modern defensive handgun.

Because the chassis is the serialized portion of the CZ DUTY, it can be freely swapped between grip modules for easy customization. The pistol is also incredibly safe thanks to its drop safety, trigger safety, out-of-battery safety, and optional ambidextrous manual thumb safety. It can also be disassembled without pulling the trigger.

Speaking of triggers, the CZ DUTY features a refined striker-fired trigger system that CZ describes as having a “very smooth travel, a crisp and clean break, and a short, easy-to-feel reset.”

The CZ DUTY also features improved ergonomics. From its balance to its grip geometry to its grip texture, all factors have been rigorously designed to optimally interface with the human hand. Three sizes of grip modules also allow shooters to adjust the palm swell size to fit them best. Aggressive slide serrations and fully ambidextrous controls are also present to allow easy manipulation in any environment and with either hand.

Naturally, CZ’s new pistol is optics-ready as well. Through the use of the included set of pins, you can directly mount red dots to the DUTY as long as they have an RMR, RMSc, Holosun K, or DPP footprint. With an adaptor plate, it can also accept Aimpoint ACROs, Colt Optics, and the Holosun HE509T. The luminescent or tritium 3-dot iron sights are ready to co-witness optics out of the box, too.

One of the DUTY’s standout features is its advertised durability. CZ guarantees a 50,000-round service life with standard 9mm ammunition and a 25,000-round service life with overpressure ammunition. It was also extensively tested using NATO STANAG AC/225 methodology to ensure it’s ready to survive real-world conditions.

Model variants of the CZ DUTY currently include the 4.0 C, 4.0 C MS, 4.0 F, and 4.0 F MS. The “MS” just denotes that it has a manual safety. Otherwise, the only difference between the 4.0 C and the 4.0 F is their grip size. All models feature a 4-inch barrel, but the C models use flush-fit 15-round mags while the F models use flush-fit 17-round mags. Optional base plates can also give a +2 extension to either mag size.

While the CZ DUTY might not do anything earth-shattering, it does appear to be an excellent amalgamation of modern features and a very solid new defensive pistol option. MSRP is $729 for all models.
