Video: Utilizing a Shot Timer in Defensive Shooting Drills

Shot timers are typically associated with shooting competitions. But as Adam Painchaud shows in the above video from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the devices have their place in defensive firearm drills. As the instructor at the SIG Sauer Academy points out, much of what shot timers bring to the table is mental training, injecting a sense of urgency to common drills. But they can also be important diagnostic tools, giving shooters instant feedback as to whether they have been accomplishing a specific movement or are breaking shots in a timely fashion. Perhaps best of all, nearly any shooting range will allow its patrons to use these training tools. This cannot be said for other important aspects of defensive firearms training, such as shooting on the move or from different positions.
