First Look: UTG Pro SD Monolithic M-LOK MP5 Handguards

Leapers has just expanded its UTG Pro Monolithic M-LOK MP5 handguard line with new SD models designed to sleeve over suppressors.

When it comes to modernizing an MP5, UTG Pro has a ton of awesome accessories available. One extremely popular option from the company is its monolithic M-LOK MP5/MP5K handguards, but shooters wanted more real estate for accessories and their support hand while running a suppressor. The solution? Leapers‘ new UTG Pro SD Monolithic M-LOK handguards for the MP5 and MP5K.

Despite what their name implies, the SD handguards aren’t actually for mounting to an integrally suppressed MP5SD or a clone thereof like the Century Arms AP5SD. It’s designed to be used on a standard MP5 or MP5K that has a suppressor mounted. The SD railed handguards are essentially just longer versions of the company’s original models. If attached to an MP5 with a naked muzzle, the SD handguards would protrude past the barrel. But with a suppressor mounted, the rail neatly sleeves over the extra length and provides more M-LOK rail space, more room to grab, and an extra layer of protection between a hot suppressor and anything it might want to burn. While at it, the rail will help to absorb and dissipate heat, too.

As a bonus, the new handguards offer a futuristic twist on the aesthetics of the original MP5SD. That ribbed rubber handguard is as cool-looking as it is comfortable, but you can’t mount anything to it. Unless you’re specifically chasing the classic MP5SD’s retro looks, the UTG Pro SD handguard is the new way to go if you’re building a practical, suppressed MP5.

Like the standard UTG Pro MP5 handguards, the SD variants are a two-piece design. An upper portion attaches to the upper receiver of an MP5 and provides Picatinny rail space for optics and a short section of M-LOK. The lower handguard section is attached to the upper half and provides more M-LOK slots and space for your support hand. Both versions have a 2.1-inch internal diameter, large enough to accommodate most suppressors while leaving enough space to clear M-LOK mounting hardware.

The UTG Pro SD Monolithic M-LOK handguard has an MSRP of $249.97 for the standard MP5 variant and an MSRP of $239.97 for the MP5K variant.
