Brown, 50, has represented a district in Boston's southwest suburbs since 2004, as one of just five Republicans in the 40-member Senate. He previously served three terms in the state House of Representatives.

As a state senator, Scott Brown worked to protect law-abiding gun owners from being prosecuted for defending themselves and their loved ones.
Senator Brown voted for the Reform Act, which extended firearm licenses from 4 to 6 years.
In 2006, Senator Brown voted for “An Act to Protect Target Shooters,” which protects target shooters and the manufacturers of firearms used in competition.
As a state senator, Brown indicated he supports the following principles concerning gun issues:
• Allow citizens to carry concealed guns.
• Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks on guns.
• Require background checks on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows.
• Require a license for gun possession.
