First Look: Springfield Armory COA-Equipped 1911 Pistols

Springfield Armory has just launched three new COA-equipped 1911 and 1911 DS pistol models.

Following the release of the COA-equipped Echelon, Springfield Armory has just added three new 1911 and 1911 DS models to its line of COA-equipped pistols. The Aimpoint COA, and its proprietary A-CUT mounting solution, is probably the best pistol red dot currently on the market, so the more handguns that manufacturers offer for it, the better. Each of the new Springfield pistols comes with an Aimpoint COA 3.5-MOA enclosed emitter red dot preinstalled.

The first new COA model is the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25-inch, a double-stack 9mm 1911 with an 18+1 capacity. It also features an ambidextrous safety, front/rear cocking serrations, an accessory rail and polymer grips. MSRP is $1,955 and it ships with two magazines.

The second model is the 5-inch 1911 TRP COA. While it’s a more traditional 1911 with its 8+1 capacity of .45 ACP (two magazines included), it has plenty of modern, tactical features as well. Those include its two-piece magwell, accessory rail, front and backstrap texturing, VZ Hydra G10 grips and top slide serrations for reduced glare. It has an ambidextrous safety and front/rear cocking serrations as well. MSRP is $2,424.

Finally, there’s the 1911 Operator COA. This model also has a 5-inch barrel, is chambered in .45 ACP and has an 8+1 capacity (two mags with bumper pads are included). Other features include its G10 grips, ambidextrous safety, front/rear cocking serrations and accessory rail. MSRP is $1,623, making it the most affordable of the COA Springfield 1911 options.

Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory, said this about the new optics-equipped 1911s:

We’re proud to announce these new Aimpoint COA-equipped 1911 and 1911 DS Prodigy pistol offerings to complement our previously launched Echelon COA pistols … Pairing the rugged and durable Aimpoint COA closed-emitter optic with these dedicated A-CUT pistols provides shooters with an appealing combination of a cutting-edge optic with the proven 1911 and 1911 DS platforms.
