According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), several anti-hunting groups, including the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Sierra Club, have filed a petition with the California Fish and Game Commission to ban most hunting in the Mojave National Preserve, including rabbit and varmint hunting.

On December 3, 2009, the New Jersey Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee heard Assembly Bill 4304 (A4304). That bill sought to make changes to recently passed legislation which banned the sale of more than one handgun per month in New Jersey.

A New Jersey law limiting handgun purchases to only one per month takes effect January 1, 2010, and will have dire consequences for firearms retailers unless it is changed.

In Texas, a federal judge has granted a temporary restraining order which will allow two Tarrant County College (TCC) students to stage an empty holster protest at the community college campuses.

Safari Club International (SCI) and the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsman's Clubs Inc. (Federation) have filed suit in New Jersey to force action on black bear management in that state.

Despite the opposition of university officials, Michigan State Representative Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City) has introduced a bill, "that would prevent the state's public universities, colleges and community colleges from banning concealed weapons on campus," the Record-Eagle reported.

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, which challenges Chicago’s ban on handguns.

Some economic stimulus money, provided by the federal government, was being used by police departments to buy new firearms.
