Palmetto State Armory has just launched the PSA 570 series, a modular, pump-action, 12-gauge shotgun system.
After teasing it for the past couple of SHOT Shows, Palmetto State Armory has just launched the PSA 570. This 12-gauge shotgun system takes inspiration from both the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 and combines it with plenty of PSA’s original ideas. The PSA 570 was designed to be a modular system, and previous information about the concept included the ability to convert the shotguns to semi-auto, but we haven’t heard anything new about that yet. At least for this initial launch, the 570 is just a pump-action, but PSA says that more components and configurations will be released in the future, so keep an eye out for further developments.
The initial PSA 570 launch features four models. Two come sporting PSA’s own furniture, and two come wearing Magpul MOE furniture, with each type available in either black or FDE. The furniture is also 870-pattern, so you can replace it with any aftermarket option that you want. Besides the furniture, the rest of these initial 570 models are the same. They’re 12-gauge, compatible with 3-inch shells, have 7-round magazine tubes and 18.5-inch barrels (fixed cylinder chokes). Central to the shotguns’ modularity is their unique free-float hanger system. It can be moved anywhere independently of the barrel or magazine tube, and the tube locks into the receiver at the rear. That will make it very easy to change barrel and mag tube lengths at home. The hanger also features QD sling cups on both sides and a Glock-style front sight that can presumably be swapped for any compatible aftermarket option.
Other features of the PSA 570 include its rear tang safety and its factory milled optics-ready receiver (RMR footprint). As for the furniture options, both the PSA and Magpul forends feature M-LOK slots for accessories, and both stocks have a spacer system for adjusting length of pull. However, PSA’s buttstock comes with integrated QD sling cups on each side, while Magpul’s requires additional hardware to install a QD sling.
All in all, the PSA 570 seems like a cool concept with a lot of potential. While these initial launch models are pretty basic, if PSA starts releasing other variants like SBS models and individual components for builders to use, things could get a lot more interesting. MSRP for the PSA furniture models is $450, and MSRP for the Magpul furniture models is $550.
