First Look: Ruger-Made Marlin 1894 Classic In .44 Magnum

The latest lever-action rifle to be reintroduced by Ruger is the Marlin 1894 Classic chambered for .44 Magnum.

Ruger’s reintroduction of classic Marlin lever-action rifles marches onward, this time with the Marlin 1894 Classic chambered for .44 Magnum. Whether you’re a hunter or just someone who appreciates lever guns chambered for big-bore calibers, this is one worth taking a look at.

As its chambering implies, the Marlin 1894 Classic can take either .44 Remington Magnum or .44 Special. Its tube can fit 10 rounds of the former and 11 rounds of the latter. The rifle sports a 20-inch, cold hammer-forged alloy steel barrel that features a 1:20 twist and standard 6-groove rifling. As for sights, the Model 1894 wears an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and hooded brass bead front sight. The rifle’s receiver, lever and trigger guard plate are CNC-machined from alloy steel forgings, and all metal components are given a satin blue finish. Other noteworthy features of the Marlin 1894 Classic include its checkered American black walnut furniture, its soft rubber recoil pad, its cross-bolt safety and the inclusion of sling swivel studs.

Ruger President and CEO, Chris Killoy, said this about the Model 1894:

Our focus continues to be on quality…We remain committed to making firearms worthy of John Marlin's legacy. The fit and finish of this rifle is reminiscent of what was produced by Marlin craftsmen in New Haven, CT many decades ago.

Ruger says that more models in various calibers and configurations will be offered in the coming year, but as of this writing, the Marlin Model 1894 Classic is shipping to dealers with limited availability. MSRP is $1,239.

  1. I’ve always loved the Lever action rifles . The Ol’ Thudy Thudy .30.30 has brought down more meat animals for the table than pretty much all hunting rifles . And they are making a huge comeback once again . A better brush gun doesn’t exist if you ask me . And Thanks to the RUGER Company , the MARLIN brand is back bigger and better . Match this .44 Mag lever with your .44Mag Revolver as a backup in Bear and Lion country and you’ve got a winning combination . Now I gotta start putting back some Benjamin’s so I can add this one to my Armory . I’ve got an original Marlin .Mdl. 1896 made in 1899 in my gun safe in outstanding condition . Along with my 1959 Winchester Mdl. 94 lever in .30.30 cal. This new Marlin will compliment my collection nicely. Well Done Ruger . Keep at it
