Who Wins ‘Greatest Handgun’?

4

Congratulations to shoist, the winner of this week’s book giveaway! Shoist's
comment on our gundigest.com website won him a free copy of “Massad Ayoob's
Greatest Handguns of the World.”

A nice variety of guns were represented in the poll. To no one's surprise,
the 1911 weighed in with the most votes for greatest handgun.
Massad Ayoob agrees that the 1911 is a great gun, and features a nice
article about it in the book.

Most of the other guns mentioned in the comments got a thumbs-up from
Ayoob. “Massad Ayoob's Greatest Handguns of the World” also offers in-depth
coverage of 21 of the greatest handguns of our era, along with personal
opinions, anecdotes and relevant tales told as only Mas can.

To find out if your favorite made the book, and see what Massad has to say
about it, you can get a copy at the Gun Digest bookstore.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to weigh in, and remember to check
the Gun Digest blog pages often – we’ll be giving away more books soon. You,
too, can be a winner — just by telling us what you think!

  1. Ruger 10/22, a great rifle in wide a variety of configurations; in addition to being accurate and reliable, it is extremely customizable to make yours a one of kind. It addition it can be had for relatively cheap if you so desire or you can buy a semi-custom style for a still reasonable price. I chose the Tactical Heavy Short Barreled version with the Hogue overmold stock. This is one awesome 22 rifle!

  2. For what you get for your money, it has to be Rugers 10/22. Great quality, good accuracy out of the box, and last but surely not least are the sheer amount of custom parts that are available. Such as, Stocks, Barrels, triggers etc… Also, since its been made since 1964, it probably won’t be going away any time soon.
