2. TO ENTER: The “Gun Digest” Book Giveaway (“Giveaway”) begins at 12:01 AM Central Time (“CT”) on October 4, 2011 and ends at 11:59 PM CT on October 10, 2011. To enter, post your response in the Comments section below.

3. PRIZE/ODDS OF WINNING: On or about Oct. 10, 2011, representatives of the Sponsor will conduct a random drawing from among all eligible entries received to award one (1) Grand Prize, valued at twenty-four dollars and ninety-nine cents ($52.98):

4. Odds of winning will be determined by the number of eligible entries received. No prize transfer or cash redemption permitted. No prize substitution, in whole or in part, except by Sponsor due to prize unavailability, safety or security considerations, or any other reason as solely determined by Sponsor in which case a prize of comparable or greater value will be awarded. Winner will be notified by phone, e-mail, postal mail or express mail at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Return of a prize notification or other documentation as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected. Winner may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and (where legal) a publicity release, which must be returned within the time period specified in the notification letter or an alternate winner may be selected.

5. GENERAL: Taxes on prize and all expenses related to acceptance and use of prize and not specified are the sole responsibility of winner. Winners of prizes valued at $600 or more will be issued an IRS 1099 Form for the value of the prize. By participating, entrants agree [a] to these rules and decisions of Sponsor and judges, which shall be final in all respects relating to this Giveaway; and [b] to release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor and its agents from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind resulting from their participating in the Giveaway or their acceptance, use or misuse of a prize including, without limitation, personal injury, death and property damage; and if a winner, [c] to permit Sponsor to use his or her name, photograph, likeness, statements, biographical information, voice, voice likeness and city and state address for advertising, publicity and promotional purposes in all media, including but not limited to on air and online, in perpetuity, without compensation (unless prohibited by law) and agree to execute specific consent to such use upon request. Sponsor and its agents are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: [a] electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, computer or other technical malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind, including without limitation, server malfunction or by any human error which may occur in the collection, processing and transmission of data; [b] lost, late, misdirected, illegible or incomplete entries or postage-due mail; [c] any type of graphical or other error in the advertising or printing of the Giveaway or in the administration of the Giveaway; or [d] any condition that may cause the administration, security or proper play of the Giveaway to be disrupted or corrupted; and in such event Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or suspend the Giveaway or any portion thereof and to award the prize(s) via a random drawing from among all eligible entries legitimately received prior to cancellation. DISPUTE RESOLUTION/CHOICE OF LAW: Except where prohibited, by participating each entrant agrees that all issues and questions concerning these official rules shall be governed by Ohio law without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law of any jurisdiction. Entrant agrees that any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to this Giveaway shall be filed only in the state or federal courts located in Hamilton County in the state of Ohio, United States, and entrant hereby consents and submits to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for the purposes of litigating any such action.   1. My father served 32 years, I served 13 years with a disability, my oldest son retired after 22 years, my middle son has 13 years in with plans to retire at 24, my youngest son has 5 years and is looking to retire at 23

  2. When I got my retirement out of the Naval Reserves I had a total of just shy of 24 years Active and Reserve time. Put 14 years in the cockpit, mostly in SH-3D and some P-3A/B time. Got to fly into Hyphong Harbor on my first operational flight and ended up in the Sandbox in Dessert Storm as OIC of a detachment in Saudi supporting the P-3’s.

    • My father served during WW2 in a quartermaster/graves registration unit in the Europe theater of operations.My son Caleb is now serving in Afghanistan as an Army M.p. For my self i three brothers who in the military also. One Air force,one Navy and the other brother Army.

  3. March 1970 to April 30, 1972 Navy. Became an “O-Boat” sailor and Cam Rahn Bay vet of the ingenious “Operation Market Time”; which was short for being slow-moving targets for the RVN PTFs 3 times a day (nerve racking)!!
    My father spent at least 2 years in the Pacific courtesy of the US Army on Kwajalene, Eniwetok, and Saipan finishing-out as a Staff Seargent in the Quartermasters. Never would talk about it much. His brother, Uncle Hank, was a Staff Seargent when he landed with the Occupation Forces near Tokyo. His sister’s husband, Uncle Ed, was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne on D-Day June 6, 1944. He’d say, “Little did we understand that when we jumped that day, we were jumping into Pure Hell on earth!!” Another uncle, Earl, served in the Navy on convoy duty in the Atlantic. My step-father landed in North Africa and survived all the way to the Occupation of Germany. He stayed in the reserves and National Guard to retirement. Achieving the rank of Command Seargent Major; a singular individual who gained your respect without trying!!

  4. I served 3 years in the Army from Sept 1963 – Sept 1966. My father served with the Army during World War II and was with the troops that first entered Japan after the surrender. Dad stated that they went into training camps and took guns away from Japanese troops who did not know the war was over.

    I enlisted in the Marines initially in 1972 to 1978 as a SSGT. Re-enlisted in the US Army in 1984 until 1993 as a SSG and was medically retired for I was hurt during Operation Desert Shield/Storm 35 miles inside Iraq as a UH-60 Blackhawk crewmember looking for downed colition pilots getting shotdown ourselves.

    It is interesting that both sides of my family – Irish and German were impressed into the British army, one in 1775 and the other in 1915.
