Remington R51

Only the suits at Remington’s front office know why it took so long for Big Green to enter the modern personal defense handgun market, but shooters everywhere are glad they finally did. Designed specifically as a carry gun, the R51 9 mm sub-compact is arguably the best new pistol introduced at the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas in January. It’s light, small and a breeze to shoot. Engineered with one of the lightest slide-pull resistances among all compact semi-autos and full ambidextrous functions, the R51 takes the guesswork out operating this gun when it’s needed most. Chambered in 9 mm, the R51 is actually a relaunch of sorts of the company’s Model 51 semi-automatic handgun originally introduced in 1916. Of course, the newer version is completely updated, but like the original, it’s made completely of metal. Despite the solid feel of this gun, it weighs just 22 ounces. MSRP is $389.
