synthetic
Depends on the purpose of the holster, to carry concealed or to protect the firearm. Concealed carry I like the flexible man made materials, to protect my firearm I like the old fashion style leather with sheepskin lining…
Synthetic, leather retains moisture, not good for guns!
I prefer kydex slightly over leather.
I’ve found leather holsters to be the best at concealed carry. I would love to win anything written by Mr. Massad Ayoob.
I like leather.
Leather (and customized).
I have always liked the Leather holsters. Especially the ones for the M1911.
Being former military, I know preffer synthetic for it’s durability.
I am just getting into firearms and home defense and would like to win these books to learn more.
I prefer leather and admire Massad Ayoob for writing skills and contributions to all gun people.
I used to think synthetic, but recently bought a Desantis Speed Scabbard. I live in a dry climate, so there I would say leather. In a wet environment, like the Puget Sound area where I was in the Army… synthetic. I’ve already asked for some of Mas’s books for Christmas from my family. Not sure what I’ll get. Hope he’ll do a class somewhere relatively close to where I live.
Best conceal carry holster? Leather of course. They are much more durable and better constructed.
I like leather.
I like to win this giveaway.
Tough call, but I vote for synthetic. I have had leather mildew on the gun.
Leather, self made.
I would like to win any of the books Gun Digest has in it’s sweepstakes! I have a fair library of Gun Digest books and read every edition of the magazine. I have read all the articles by Mr. Ayoob that Gun Digest has taken excerpts from. He is the man when it comes to hand guns and concealed carry. He knows the gun laws too. I loved his “10 myths about personal defense gun use debunked.”
Good luck to all who entered. Have a Merry Christmas ALL!
I prefer leather. I own a Versa Max II. FANTASTIC! I would like to try a Crossbreed though.
Leather is the winner!
Why not a leather and synthetic holster and have the best of both worlds? ;^)
Massad Ayoob rules!
I would sure like to learn more from Massab Ayoob’s books!
My choice is for the leather holster. I feel they are rigid, solid and smooth. Dependable, like a holster should be.
Huntindog
A combination of both works for me, such as the Crossbreed holsters or the Old Faithful Holsters kits!
Synthetic is my choice but i do like the leather for softness.
I prefer the synthetic holsters but i do like the leather also.Merry Christmas.
It would be very nice to win these books.
I prefer synthetic for it’s durability.
Synthetics certainly don’t smell as nice as a good leather holster.
Synthetics certainly don’t smell as nice as a good leather holster.
Synthetics certainly don’t smell as nice as a good leather holster.
Happy Birthday Randy, and good luck in the drawing!
~Corrina
I prefer a leather holster
A combination of both works for me, such as you’d find with Crossbreed holsters or the Old Faithful kits!
Leather! Synthetic cant match the feel of a natural leather holster carrying concealed.
I sure would like to win these books. I met Mr. Ayoob a few years ago but have never read any of his books, only magazine articles.
Merry Christmas
I sure would like to win these. I got to meet Mr. Ayoob a few years back but haven’t read any of his books, just articles in magazines, like Gun Digest.
Merry Christmas
Both have their benefits and drawbacks, but I am partial to leather for comfort and conformity. I would love to win Mr. Ayoob’s books to increase my knowledge of concealed carry; we could all use his help with our responsible firearm ownership. Thank you for the opportunity.
My favorite is leather but right now I am using synthetic for my Ruger LCP and LC9 for pocket carry.
The best concealed carry holster depends entirely on where, how and what you carry. For OWB I prefer leather since it is comfortable and with age conforms to both your firearm and your carry position. It resists weather and holds my firearms securely, even without retention. On the other hand, IWB is what synthetic holsters were made for. My backup is a mini version of my full size Glock and without a synthetic holster I could not carry it in SOB and be comfortable. The holster I wear while at home is a kydex paddle holster that doesn’t require a belt and will hold any size Glock that I pull out of my gun safe and allows me to be casual and comfortable with only a t-shirt covering my firearm. So, even with someone such as myself who has no problem deciding on anything, my holster has, like my firearm, to serve whatever purpose I have at that moment. That being said, I prefer leather personally; and have a great deal of respect for Mr. Ayoob and his vast knowledge and expertice with firearms and concealed carry and personal defense. The next best thing to sitting down with him for a few weeks while he tries to explain everything he knows would be to win these books written by one of the foremost experts in the field, since we responsible gun owners need to continue to learn every day as much as we need to train daily.
Best concealed carry holster: leather. Plastic ain’t soft.
Best concealed carry holster: leather or synthetic? Both! My Crossbreed Super Tuck Deluxe is by far the best conclealed carry holster I have ever worn.
I can’t see my first response?
Both. Older, used leather seems best but the nylon cloth works well also.
I love the feel of leather.
I would love that book!
Leather.
1. Soft, natural, warm, and comfortable.
2. Quiet.
3. Gun likes it, too. Because from the inside, it fits.
4. It looks like a holster.
Leather has always worked better for me, especially in humid environments that I have lived.
And I would like to be entered in the giveaway.
Would like to WIN!
I would love to win the giveaway.
New to the ccw community and have honestly only been carrying a ‘mouse gun’ in my pocket. Gonna be carrying mid or compact size soon & looking at a few options. Would love to win this though.
BTW- anyone try the 511 compression shirts?
Two many variables to make a blanket statement. Please enter me though thanks.
My Glock G-36 & me hope you pick us to win!!!
leather is best it will conform to you and the gun over time
just bought my wife a desantis soft-tuk for her keltec 3at feels like a very nice holster
Leather is more comfortable and I think it reduces wear on the gun.
I like leather the best.
I HAVE BOTH TYPES OF HOLSTER AND THEY SERVE ME WELL I THINK IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU CARRY. I PREFER LEATHER IWB AND SYNTHETIC OWB. I ALSO COULD REALLY USE THE BOOKS. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE
You had to ask? Leather of course !
I prefer leather. It’s a natural, comfortable, conforming material that gets better with age and won’t last forever in a landfill when it finally does wear out.
I use both types depends on the situation.
I have a IWB leather Comp-tac and LOVE it
WIN!
Leather
I live In Maryland and as it is a Communist there is no way in hell unless you are a retired cop or own a business and carry around a load of cash all the time or are an actual victem of a violent crime with a current threat can you get a carry permit.
But that is supposed to change as it was deemed unconstitutional.
So I am reading about which is better and I think it is a matter of personal choice.
Whatever the material, I am going to go for comfort inside the waistband carry, As I need to conceal a 4 inch 1911 .45acp .
I prefer leather I have never tried one of the plastic molded holsters I feel that it would leave wear marks on the gun faster then carrying in a leather holster. I would take a nylon holster over the molded plastic holsters if I could not find a leather one I liked. Being left handed limits my choices on buying a holster at some places who carry few if any left hand ones some only carry right hand holsters.
I would go with a leather holster.
I’m new to handguns and concealed carry but I have a blackhawk holster and its awesome. So I’m gonna have to say synthetic.
I prefer leather that is custom made for the firearm. It fits better and holds the weapon better. Also it does not make you sweat as bad as the PLASTIC ones
Would love to win, I’m moving to a city that allows ccw and that has a high violent crime. I really need as much help and information as possible.
I have both, but prefer leather – IWB. Thank you for the opportunity for the free book!
I prefer Leather but there are certain carry situations when I will a Kydex rig.
I have both types of holsters but I do prefer the synthetic.
I prefer leather as it molds to become more comfortable over time.
It’s probably a toss up between the two. However, I can see the utility of using a synthetic application when in an environment that would be on the hot side, causing the wearer to sweat, thereby affection the leather holster more than synthetic also possibly wicking the moisture through the leather onto the firearm. (granted, you’d have to sweat a lot but nevertheless, a possibility!)
Leather
I like synthetic better because it does not retain moisture. I would very much like to win these books because Massad Ayoob is my favorite author.
Probably the best is the one that gets used. That goes down to personal preference. I know it’s expensive to try them all, but if you don’t like the one you have, try another!
I carry Synthetic, but leather is nice if I can find the shape and a good price.
Leather pick me please
leather or synthetic?
I found that my gun fits in a synthetic better. It is just difficult to find a good leather one that fits the gun well. I’ve used synthetic for in pant but leather for shoulder. So, I guess it all depends. That is why they make both, I guess.
The books look like a great read. As many have said, as much info as possible. Plus, like them, I’d like to win.
DJ
I have both and prefer leather , more comfortable and comforms to the weapon and body over time
SYNTHETIC
I like synthetic
For me, the best concealed carry holster is leather.
Leather is the only way to go.
Leather holsters are the way to go. Agreed, more concealed and self defense knowledge is always a good thing.
Possible double tap:
Leather, but want to try a hybrid.
It does not matter the material, it’s the belt that carries it.
Leather!
Count me in!
I have used Kydex but currently run a leather rig.
Both have their advantages/Disadvantages but if I had to have one I would go with leather.
That being said, I want to try out a hybrid too.
My favorite so far are the type with kydex holder attached to a leather backing. IWB and tuckable. But there is at least one company using the same basic idea, but in an all-leather holster. I haven’t tried it, but imagine it may be even more comfortable than he hybrids.
I like leather or synthetic equally.
Leather is always better. Natural, more comfortable.
Please enter me in the contest to win this book.
I’d vote for synthetic, made to fit gun, thinner and easier to conceal. However, leather is probably more comfortable.
I personally like leather holsters. And I really want to win. These books look great! Merry Christmas
I like leather
I’d like to read this.
Neither is better in the true sense – the answer is situational dependent. Variables include personal preference, clothing, activity, environment, and such. Now if you asked my preference – leather, inside the pants works most cases for me.
BTW – would love to win one of these books!
Best regards and thanks for the opportunity,
Kenny
Pick me! Pick me!
I like synthetic for concealed carry.
One can NEVER have too much Concealed Carry knowledge.
Combination of both leather and kydex as in “Crossbreed”
I vote for leather
Leather of course. Like a good cather’s mitt!
I personally would prefer leather. Synthetics may be less expensive, but there is something about natural material that is more comfortable. I pray you all have a Merry Christmas.
I would like to win…
Always carried leather. Conforms so much better than synthetic.
I would guess leather, but I do not yet have my carry permit & so I’m just making a guess. The information in these books would be a great help to me as I try to learn about guns & carry laws & get my permit.
Leather. My experience with leather has been better. The quality of the holster, leather or synthetic, makes the biggest difference.
I prefer leather… its natural, forms to the body, absorbs moisture, doesn’t move around, very comfortable and of course love the smell of leather!
I prefer leather.
Illinois resident waiting for concealed carry. Leather is best. Knowledge is always key, hoping to be the lucky winner.
I don’t carry concealed, but would love to learn more about it. This book set would help me advance my education!
Synthetic of course.
I wanna win SOOOOOO bad!
My birthday is coming up December 17, sure would be an awsome gift to receive.
Happy Birthday “southtxcowboy,” and good luck in the drawing. This set of books would make a nice late birthday gift!
~Corrina
Always good to have more concealed carry knowledge. These books would go far in that way.
