I was browsing through some of my search columns on Tweetdeck this morning and stumbled upon a bunch of retweets for a deal-of-the day item that involved, of all things, gun training! I was pretty impressed. Now, the deal, from the network LivingSocial.com, was advertised for residents of the Minneapolis area, and it said:
We all love summer blockbusters big on explosions, high-speed car chases, and plenty of heart-pumping gunfire. But today's deal from Gander Mountain Academy in Lakeville puts all that thrill and excitement into the hands of even the most novice shooter: You. For just $20, take aim at the 45-minute Ultimate Academy Experience class (regularly $40). You'll get gun rental and ammunition; one-on-one interaction and training from a certified, skilled instructor; access to the virtual firing range and two defensive target simulators; and ten minutes to shoot a Glock 9mm on a live range. Learn important facts about gun safety and how to protect your loved ones from danger in this fun and informative course. At 50% off, you'll be able to sharpen those sharpshooter skills for less than the cost of a night at the movies.
Not only is this cool because, well, it's about guns, but I like it because one of the powerhouse names in the deal-of-the-day coupon web game actually took on this deal at all. You've probably all seen the ads for Groupon, Woot, DealSucker, DealoftheDay, and now dozens and dozens of others, but LivingSocial.com is really dominating this business, thanks in no small part to a nationally televised ad campaign. Typical offers revolve around deals on tango lessons, fine dining, sky diving, weekend getaways, and the like–all pretty tame and “socially acceptable.” But handgun shooting lessons? I think LivingSocial.com deserves a big round of applause for putting this one up, as does Gander Mountain for working out the deal with them. Nice way reach out to new shooters who've not known where or how to get started in the shooting sports.
Whether you're a Minneapolis local who took advantage of the LivingSocial.com deal, or anyone else anywhere else who's interested in taking up handgunning, then you're going to want to know about one of the most popular handguns of all times, the Colt 1911. The author recommends the following:
