Kimber Stainless Target II Test Shoot
June 30, 2009
by Andy Belmas Summary
As the new associate editor at Gun Digest the Magazine, it fell on my shoulders to test shoot the Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm. It's days like this that make me love my job.
The day got even better when I squeezed off the first five rounds. The gun shoots straight, the sights nest well, and the action works like it should. It’s the 1911 at its finest: simple, smart and smooth.
For our limited, first-touch test we were checking function, basic accuracy and fit and finish. As with any Kimber, the fit and finish were outstanding. No sharp edges. Operating controls were smooth and precise. Checkering was sharp. All in all this was a fine example of what one would expect from Kimber. We test fired with Hornady 180-grain HP/XTP at ten yards. The groups were impressive, as expected, and even rapid fire and double taps produced solid results at close range. For anyone who wanted a full-sized ultra accurate carry gun in 10mm this would fit the bill perfectly. On the other side of the coin, hunters looking for a hard-hitting auto-loader with the ability to take deer-sized game and moderate ranges will find the Kimber Stainless Target II an excellent companion in the woods.
The stainless steel frame and black synthetic handle make the gun look slick. And with its 5-inch barrel and eight-round magazine, the gun makes for a lot of fun on the range. It's so much fun that I didn't want to come back to the office to write up the article; I'd rather have spent the afternoon shooting. |
